An Unnatural Vocation

Selina Ashworth is not your typical Victorian lady. Her mother is a seamstress, her father a successful country doctor. Being an only child, her father dotes on her and educates her like he would a son, instilling in her a love of science and medicine.
When her father suddenly dies, Selina finds that he has set up a trust for her that will allow her to live in London with her aunt and attend Oxford University to study medicine and become a doctor.
Selina's mother is troubled at the idea of her young, unmarried daughter living in London with her bluestocking Aunt. Mrs. Ashworth is also horrified by the notion of her daughter becoming a dotor, or what she says is an unnatural vocation for a woman.
Selina defies her mother's wishes and travels to London, dragging with her father's old suitcase filled with notebooks, medical journals and supplies. Selina knows that London holds her destiny and dreams of the day when she too, will be Dr. Ashworth.
